Stop/start disable

Stop/start shuts the engine down at a standstill and restarts it when you lift the
brake. In heavy urban traffic it makes a measurable difference to fuel use and emissions.
Outside that it does very little.

Why people ask

Most cars have a button, and most cars forget you pressed it every time you switch off.
Making the setting stick is the most common request we get on this.

Worth knowing

A stop/start car has a heavier duty starter and usually an AGM or EFB battery, both
specified for the extra cycling. Disabling the function does not change what battery the car
needs. If yours is struggling, the battery is the more likely culprit.

For the trade

This is one of the jobs available through our dealer file service. Send the
original read, tell us the vehicle and what you need, and the file comes back
checked. If a job carries mechanical conditions on the car, they are listed in the
coverage table below and they apply to your customer’s vehicle too.
