WHAT IS STAGE TUNING?

Tuners often discuss Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 3 modifications. But what does the various tuning stages mean? And how should you understand their names? Which tuning level do you want for your vehicle, stage 1 or stage 2 or stage 3 tune?

The truth of the matter is, each Tuner defines this differently, unfortunately this is no industry standard! Lucky for you we have a break down of each of are stage for

STAGE 1 TUNING

A Stage 1 remap is a standalone modification that enhances performance without requiring any additional upgrades. While supporting modifications can further optimise results, Stage 1 tuning is designed to work efficiently on a well-maintained stock engine, delivering noticeable power and responsiveness improvements. Read more about Stage 1 Tuning…

STAGE 2 TUNING

Stage 2 tuning delivers greater power gains than Stage 1 but requires supporting hardware upgrades to function effectively. These modifications, such as a performance exhaust, intercooler, and upgraded intake system, help optimise airflow and cooling. While Stage 2 tuning offers significant performance improvements, it requires more technical expertise and specialised equipment to install and calibrate correctly. STAGE 3 TUNING

Stage 3 tuning is a high-performance upgrade designed for serious enthusiasts, often suited for track use. Like Stage 2, it requires extensive supporting modifications to handle the increased power and demands on the engine. Common upgrades include an uprated turbocharger, aggressive camshaft profiles, reinforced clutch, lightweight flywheel, high-flow intercooler, and a full performance exhaust and intake system. Overview

Using language like “stage” can be difficult as the most significant issue is the variation across different types of engines. Stage 1 tuning can look very different from one engine to another, and a Stage 1 car might outperform a Stage 3 vehicle. Ultimately, any modifications or tuning you do to your engine are at your own risk. Generally, the more power you add to an engine, the higher the level of risk. Increasing the power, torque, and performance of the engine puts it under more significant stress, which it may or may not be able to handle. But here at ECU Flash, we ensure our experts take good care of your cars and perform the tuning stages as carefully as possible.
