Launch control

Launch control holds the engine at a set speed against the brake and manages torque as the clutch takes up, so the car gets away cleanly without bogging down or spinning the tyres.

Is it something we add?

Not as a separate option. On many higher-powered cars with a DSG or ZF automatic gearbox it is already switched on from the factory, so there is nothing to add.

The exception is the DQ381 seven-speed DSG. Where launch control is not already active we can switch it on as part of a gearbox tune, although most come from the dealer with it on. BMW xHP gearbox tuning can also change how launch control behaves on those cars.

The part people do not want to hear

Launching a car is hard on the clutch, the gearbox and the driveshafts. On a dual clutch
box it is the clutch packs that pay for it. It is a fine thing to have and an expensive
thing to use every day, and we will say so.
