What do Stage 1, Stage 2 and Stage 3 mean?

The stages describe how much hardware the software is written around, from none at all up to a full dyno developed build.

Stage 1

Software only. No parts required. The file is written around the vehicle exactly as the factory built it.

Stage 2

Written around light hardware, typically an air filter, an intercooler or an exhaust system that reduces the restriction of the standard parts.

On petrol engines we would normally suggest a sports cat with a good quality cat back system so the car stays MOT compliant. On diesels you can keep the DPF in place, but we cannot promise it will never block.

Stage 3

Developed on the dyno for heavy hardware, for example a cold air intake, an uprated turbo, larger injectors or a full exhaust. It needs extensive logging on the rollers and on the road to prove the engine is running healthy.

Two things to be clear about

Anything that makes a car illegal for road use is what our terms call a Race Modification. Clause 2.4 of our terms of sale sets out the full list and what you are agreeing to when we fit one.

There is no set BHP or torque figure for any stage. The result depends on the condition of the engine and on the make and quality of the parts fitted. Anyone quoting you a fixed number for a stage without seeing the car is guessing.

We give no warranty on Stage 2 or Stage 3 tunes. Those builds run the engine and driveline harder than the factory intended, and we will not pretend otherwise.

ROAD LEGALITY

Removing the DPF from a road car makes it illegal to use on a public road and it will fail the MOT. If your DPF is blocked, ask us to look at repairing or replacing it first.
