Home tuning tools

Active grille shutters close off the radiator opening when full cooling airflow is
not needed. It reduces drag and helps the engine reach temperature faster, both of which
show up in the official economy figures.

The failures are mechanical: a seized actuator, a broken vane, or debris jamming the
mechanism. The symptom is a fault code and sometimes a cooling warning. Replacing the
actuator is the normal repair.
