Will a remap shorten the life of my engine?

A remap changes how hard the engine works, so the honest answer is that it depends on how the file is written, what condition the engine is in, and how you drive afterwards.

Our files are written to stay within the tolerances of the components already on your vehicle. We are not chasing a headline number. Chasing big figures means pushing boost, fuelling and cylinder pressure past what the turbo, clutch, gearbox and cooling system were designed for, and that is where reliability problems start.

What helps

• A healthy starting point. We check the vehicle over before we write anything, and if something needs attention first we will say so.
• Servicing on time, with oil to the correct specification.
• Letting the engine warm up before you use the extra performance, and letting a turbo settle before you switch off.

A worn or neglected engine is closer to a failure than a healthy one, remapped or not. If your car is already using oil, smoking or logging faults, deal with that first. We would rather turn work away than tune a car that is not up to it.
