Alientech has released KESS3 Upgrade 3.68, adding support for the locked Bosch MD1CS089 ECU in a run of modern tractors and one pick-up. The route is a boot unlock using the KESS3 Unlock Module kit, after which the ECU can be read and written on the bench through its connector, without reopening the unit. Our tools now read and write this ECU family, and it is one more locked diesel controller that dealers no longer have to turn away.
Which ECUs
The update covers a single ECU family, the Bosch MD1CS089, supplied locked. The workflow has two stages:
- Boot unlock with the KESS3 Unlock Module kit, which unlocks the ECU for access.
- Bench read and write through the connector. Bench access only works after the boot unlock has been completed.
Alientech lists production from 2020 onward in the introduction and from 2021 in the technical notes, so the exact start year depends on the unit in front of you. There is no BETA label on this release.
Machines this opens up
The vehicles named in the release are:
- Deutz 5 Series
- Lamborghini Tractors Spire
- SAME Dorado, Explorer and Frutteto
- Weihang WHP5043XLJ
- JAC Motors T9 pick-up
That is mostly medium-power and orchard tractors, plus the JAC T9. Always check the ECU part number on the machine against the MD1CS089 before you commit to a job, because the same model can carry different controllers.
What it means
For tractor owners and operators, a calibration on these engines is about torque delivery low in the rev range, fuel burn over a long working day and work rate in the field. Better pull at low revs means fewer gear changes under load and a machine that holds its speed through heavy ground, and that usually shows up in the fuel figure at the end of the season.
For dealers and workshops, the useful part is turnaround. A locked MD1CS089 used to mean a delay or a refusal. With the unlock module and bench access now available, these jobs can be handled and the file returned to you faster. Treat the boot unlock as the careful step, because it is the part that carries risk on an expensive machine.
