KESS3 3.67 Bosch EDC17C49 Bench and Boot for Tractors and Plant

KESS3 upgrade 3.67 adds Bench and Boot protocols for Bosch EDC17C49 on tractors, telehandlers and loaders from 2009. See the machines covered.

2 min readBy JF AutomotiveMaidstone, Kent

Alientech has released KESS3 upgrade 3.67 with new Bench and Boot protocols for the Bosch EDC17C49 ECU, aimed at off-highway machinery and trucks built from 2009 onward. If you work on tractors, telehandlers, loaders and similar plant, this is a useful addition to the KESS3 list, and it covers cloning as well as reading and writing.

Which ECUs

The release is for the Bosch EDC17C49, a diesel engine ECU found on engines from 1.5 to 3.6 litres (the source lists 1.5, 2.3, 3.0, 3.4 and 3.6 litre units). Two access methods are included:

  • Bench: the ECU is read and written through its connector without being opened.
  • Boot: the memory is accessed directly with the ECU opened, for deeper operations.

Cloning, which means transferring data from one ECU to another compatible unit, is supported in both modes. Alientech does not describe either protocol as beta.

Machines this opens up

These are the machines named in the release:

  • Arbos 4100
  • Armatrac 1004 and 904
  • Carraro Agricube
  • Farmtrac 3914 and 9120
  • Goldoni E Series and S Series
  • Hako Citymaster and Multicar
  • Hattat T4000 and T4110
  • Lundberg Wheel Loader
  • Magni Telehandler
  • Mathieu Azura
  • Pellenc Buggy
  • Reform Boki and Muli

The brand list is Arbos, Armatrac, Carraro, Farmtrac, Goldoni, Hako, Hattat, Lundberg, Magni, Mathieu, Pellenc and Reform. Check the exact engine and ECU variant on the machine in front of you before you plan a job, as the list above is the supplier’s published coverage and not a promise for every variant.

What it means

For owners of working machines, the real gains from a calibration are rarely about headline bhp. A well-made file can improve torque delivery low in the rev range, which helps a loader or telehandler hold its work rate under load, and it can help fuel burn over a long working day. Results depend on the machine, its condition and the file, so treat any figure as indicative until it has been proven on your own equipment.

For dealers and workshops, the Bench option is the quicker route because the ECU stays closed, while Boot is there for the cases that need it. Having both on one tool also makes cloning a replacement unit simpler, which cuts downtime when a machine is off the job.

See the Alientech KESS3 tool page for what we supply, use our file service if you would rather send us the file than do the work in house, or talk to us about a specific machine.
