Magic Motorsport has released Flex version 8.27.0.0, and it brings Korhex Boot Glitch support to a group of Bosch MDG1 control units used across the VAG group. These are the TC298 and TC299 processor ECUs found in some of the most powerful Audi, Cupra, Lamborghini and Volkswagen models of the last few years. JF Automotive has the Korhex hardware and the Flex licence level it needs (FLS0.20 / FLS0.5), so this is a protocol our tools now read and write.
Which ECUs
The release covers Bosch MDG1 units in the VAG group. Magic Motorsport lists these ECUs:
- Bosch MG1CS002 H80 (TC298)
- Bosch MG1CS008 (TC298)
- Bosch MG1CS031 H80 (TC298)
- Bosch MD1CS004 H80 (TC298)
- Bosch MD1CS014 (TC299)
The method is Boot Glitch using Korhex, with the read and write then carried out in Bench mode. Flex can read, write and checksum the internal flash, read and write the internal EEPROM, and take a full backup. Magic Motorsport quotes about 30 seconds to connect, around 2 minutes 30 seconds to read and around 2 minutes to write. Until now the usual route on these units was voltage fault injection. Korhex cuts the time spent on the job and avoids working directly on the PCB.
Cars this opens up
Magic Motorsport shows a selection of the supported vehicles rather than the full list, so treat the cars below as examples:
- Audi SQ5 (II) FY, 2021 model year, 3.0 V6 TDI mild hybrid
- Audi RS5 (II) F5, 2022 model year, 2.9 V6 twin-turbo
- Cupra Formentor (I) SE316, 2021 model year, 2.0 TSI 187hp
- Lamborghini Urus S (I), 2022 model year, 4.0 V8 twin-turbo
- Volkswagen Golf (VIII), 2021 model year, 2.0 TDI 197hp
If your car is not on that short list but uses one of the ECUs above, it is worth asking us to check before you book anything in.
What it means
For owners, newer VAG petrol and diesel engines on these controllers have been harder to get into without opening and modifying the ECU. A bench Boot Glitch route is a cleaner way in, and it means a remap on a late model Golf, Formentor or RS5 can be approached with a proper full backup of the original file first. Power and torque gains vary by engine and software, and we quote typical figures once we know exactly what is in the car. You can start with our tuning builder to see what is available for your model.
For garages and tuners, this is a Korhex route that needs an FLS0.20 Boot Glitch licence or a Flex Full FLS0.5 configuration. If you do not have that kit, ask our file service about your vehicle, and you can see the hardware we work with on our Magic Motorsport Flex page.
