bFlash has added a new OBD protocol for the Vitesco EMS2910 and EMS2916 engine control units fitted to current Ford EcoBoost engines. Both ECUs are now supported in OBD VR and NR, so our tools now read and write EMS2910 and EMS2916 files directly over OBD rather than needing the car in for a longer bench job.
These two units have been one of the more common sticking points on newer EcoBoost Fords, so this is a welcome addition for anyone running a car in this range who has been quoted a bench price or a longer wait elsewhere.
Which ECUs
The update covers two Vitesco units. The EMS2916 is fitted to the 1.0 litre EcoBoost, and the EMS2910 covers the 1.5, 2.0 and 3.5 litre EcoBoost engines. Both are supported in OBD VR and NR, with no mention of a BETA tag or any bench or boot alternative.
Cars this opens up
- Ford EcoBoost 1.0 (EMS2916)
- Ford EcoBoost 1.5 (EMS2910)
- Ford EcoBoost 2.0 (EMS2910)
- Ford EcoBoost 3.5 (EMS2910)
bFlash has published the engine sizes rather than an exact model list, so if you have a specific EcoBoost Ford in mind, send the registration or VIN through and we will confirm coverage before quoting.
What it means
For EcoBoost owners, this closes off one of the more awkward Ford units to get a file for. Instead of a bench session, the file service can now cover the EMS2910 and EMS2916 over OBD, which keeps both the cost and the turnaround down for a stage 1 remap or an economy file.
For dealers, it is a straightforward OBD job on supported bFlash tools, so there is no new hardware to source and no mail-in delay while the car sits off the road. That matters on a courtesy-car-free job where the customer is waiting, and it means a stage 1 or economy file can go out the same day rather than being booked in for a bench slot further down the line.
If you are running one of these engines, our tuning builder will show you what a remap looks like for your car, and dealers can get hold of the file itself through our file service.
