The 2015-on Hilux and its relatives run a Denso ECU that Toyota locked tighter with each software update, and the newer Gen2 hardware has been a boot-only job. Magic Motorsport’s Flex 8.7 (22 July) adds a bench protocol: two minutes to read, one to write, checksums handled, on the 2.4 and 2.8 D-4D.
Vehicles
- Toyota Hilux (2015 on) 2.4 D-4D 150 PS and 2.8 D-4D
- Toyota Land Cruiser Prado J150 (2015 on) 2.8 D-4D 177 PS
- Toyota Fortuner (2015 on), HiAce (2018 on), Innova (2015 on)
What it means
The 2.8 1GD is under-stressed from the factory. A Stage 1 typically takes it from 177 PS and 450 Nm to around 215 PS and 520 Nm, which on a Hilux towing a trailer is the difference you feel on every hill. The 2.4 gains a similar 35 PS. The ECU comes out for the bench read and goes back the same day.
Owners: put your registration into the tuning builder. Dealers: Denso Gen2 files through the file service; the Flex is the tool for the bench read.
