Subaru WRX, Impreza, Forester, Outback and Levorg (2006 to 2022): OBD read and write, in beta

Subaru’s Denso and Hitachi ECUs have been readable for years, but only through Subaru-specific software. From 16 June the Autotuner reads and writes them over OBD like any other car: two minutes to read, two to three to write. The protocol is marked beta, which in Autotuner’s language means it works but they are still collecting cars.

Cars this covers

  • Impreza and WRX (2006 to 2022) 2.0 and 2.5 turbo
  • Forester (2008 to 2013) 2.0 XT and 2.5 XT; Legacy and Outback (2009 to 2019) 2.5 GT and 2.0 D
  • Levorg (2015 on) 1.6 and 2.0 turbo; XV and Crosstrek (2011 on); Ascent (2018 on) 2.4 turbo

What it means

The WRX and the turbo Forester are cars that were built to be tuned. A Stage 1 on the 2.5 turbo typically takes 265 PS to around 320 PS and 450 Nm on standard hardware, and we always log knock on the rolling road because these engines are sensitive to fuel quality. The 2.0 diesel Outback and Forester gain a useful 35 PS and 80 Nm.

Owners: put your registration into the tuning builder. Dealers: Subaru reads through the file service with the Autotuner.
