Porsche’s MDG1 generation ECUs were among the hardest to open. The 992 Carrera, the Cayenne GTS and Turbo, the 718 GTS 4.0, and the VW group V8 cousins (Audi RS Q8, Lamborghini Urus, Bentley Bentayga) all needed a mail-in unlock with the car off the road for a week. Magic Motorsport’s Flex 8.2, released on 3 July, does the unlock on the bench in the workshop with a boot glitch. Connect, glitch, read in two and a half minutes, write in two. Nothing is soldered and a full backup is taken first.
Cars this opens up
- Porsche 911 Carrera 992 3.0 twin turbo (2020 on), 718 Boxster and Cayman GTS 4.0 (2020 on)
- Porsche Cayenne GTS and the other 4.0 V8 Cayennes (2017 on)
- Audi RS Q8 4.0 V8 (2019 on), Lamborghini Urus and Urus Performante (2018 on), Bentley Bentayga V8 (2016 on)
What it means
These are cars where the factory leaves the most on the table. The 380 PS 992 Carrera typically makes around 450 PS and 580 Nm on a Stage 1; the 4.0 V8 in the Cayenne GTS and RS Q8 typically gains 90 to 100 PS. We quote Porsche and Lamborghini files individually and every one is measured on our rolling road before it leaves. Read the GT3 case study for the sort of work we do on them.
Owners: put your registration into the tuning builder or call 01622 321500. Dealers: files through the file service; the Flex does the unlock, and the CMD mail-in service covers the same ECUs if you would rather post it.
