AutoTuner has added OBD Virtual Read support for two more Bosch MED17.1 petrol ECUs, the MED17.1.10 found in the 2.0 TFSI Audi A4 and A5 and the MED17.1.61 used across the 1.4 TSI / TFSI range in Audi, Volkswagen, Seat and Skoda models. Both run on the TC1793 processor and are read through the OBD port, so there is no need to remove the ECU from the car. The source does not label this release as beta.
Which ECUs
Bosch MED17.1.10 and Bosch MED17.1.61, both TC1793. The mode is OBD Virtual Read. AutoTuner lists a write time of around 13 minutes, checksum correction and a back-to-stock function. A Secure Gateway is present on these vehicles, which is worth knowing before you book a car in.

What it means
For owners, the 1.4 TSI is one of the most common petrol engines in the UK, and the 2.0 TFSI A4 and A5 are popular with people who want more from a daily driver. A software remap typically brings a noticeable gain in mid-range pull and throttle response, with the exact figure depending on the engine, the car’s condition and the fuel used. If you are thinking about it, start with our tuning builder to see what suits your car.
For garages, an OBD read means a quicker job and less risk than bench work, and the checksum correction and back-to-stock function make the file handling cleaner. Details of the tool are on our AutoTuner tuning tool page, and if you would rather send us the original file than do the job yourself, have a look at our tuning file service.
