What is covered

Files for every stage and every fix

Every file is written for the exact ECU and software version you read, by a tuner, not by a database lookup. If the engine is one we have not seen before, we say so and quote it rather than guess.

Performance

Stage 1 software on a standard car. Stage 2 for cars with an intercooler, exhaust or intake. Stage 3 for hybrid turbos and built engines, quoted per car.

Gearbox

DSG, DCT, ZF 8HP and other TCU files: faster shifts, higher torque limits, launch control and raised rev limits to match the engine file.

Deletes and patches

DPF, EGR, AdBlue, O2, swirl flap, start-stop, GPF/OPF, cylinder on demand, AGS, cold start, DTC, hot start fix, MAF off, Vmax, CVN fix, injector and MAP sensor scaling.

Character

Pop and bang, antilag, launch control, sports display calibration and custom requests. Some options are off-road only and the portal says which.

Slave or master?

A slave tool reads and writes files encrypted to one file supplier: simpler, cheaper, and you get our finished file back ready to write. A master tool gives you the decrypted file to edit yourself, and our master files come with the original for comparison. Most new dealers start with a slave tool and never need more.

What a tuning file is

One file, a few hundred cells changed

Your engine control unit runs on maps: tables of fuel, boost and ignition timing for every engine speed and load. A tuning file is that software with the right cells recalibrated, checksum corrected, ready to write back.

Every JFA base file starts on our own rolling road, then is matched to the exact ECU and software version you read. Not a generic file from a database.

Why JFA files

Written on a dyno, backed by people

  • Every base file developed on our own AWD rolling road in Maidstone, with the comparison sheets to prove it
  • A tuner writes your file, checks it against our database of that ECU, and takes responsibility for it
  • Live chat and a help centre while the car is on the ramp, so you are never stuck with a customer waiting
  • Revisions free, and the file credited back to your account if we cannot tune the car
  • Pay per file and no monthly fee, so a quiet month costs you nothing
  • Fifteen years of files, 22+ years in the automotive trade, and a workshop that tunes cars every day

Questions

File service questions

What do I need to start?

A tuning tool that can read the ECU (any brand) and a free portal account. Read the car, upload the file, tick the options and download; the file is deducted from your account balance.

How much does a file cost?

A Stage 1 is £50, a Stage 2 £80, and options such as DPF or AdBlue are added on top. You top up your account in your own currency and each file is deducted from the balance. See the file prices page for the full list and a calculator.

What are your opening hours for files?

If the file is already in our database, our system matches it and sends it straight back to your account, 24/7, weekends included. New files are written by hand Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm and Saturday 8am to 1pm, UK time. Our average turnaround last month was 16 minutes. Tell us on live chat if a customer is waiting.

Can I get the original file back?

Yes. Every request keeps the original read alongside the tuned file in your account, so a car can always go back to standard.

Do you write for vans, trucks and motorhomes?

Yes. Light commercials and motorhomes are a large part of the service, and we cover most Sprinter, Transit, Crafter and Ducato engines. Ask about heavy trucks and agricultural.

Are deletes legal?

Some deletes make a vehicle illegal for road use in the UK and in most of Europe, and the portal marks which. They are supplied for off-road and motorsport use and the dealer is responsible for how a file is used.
