Tractor Tuning: Case IH, New Holland, Claas and Deutz-Fahr on OBD

AutoTuner now reads and writes Bosch MD1CS069 and MD1CE101 over OBD in beta, opening up Case IH, New Holland, Claas, Deutz-Fahr and Steyr tractors.

AutoTuner has released OBD support for the Bosch MD1CS069 and MD1CE101, and it is a big one for anyone with farm or plant work coming through the door. These are the engine ECUs fitted across most of the current tractor, combine and telehandler range, and until now they have been largely closed to the trade.

Which ECUs

The release covers the Bosch MD1CS069 and MD1CE101, both built on the Infineon TC299 microcontroller. Our tools now read and write them entirely over the diagnostic port, with no bench work, no boot mode and no unlock. The readout takes in the bootloader, software and calibration, and checksums are corrected automatically.

AutoTuner quotes around 11 minutes to read and about 1 minute to write. It is worth being straight about the status: this is released as a beta. AutoTuner is asking for field feedback and logs from real jobs, so the first machines through are helping validate it. Treat it accordingly and keep your backups.

Machines this opens up

  • Case IH: Farmall, Luxxum, Maxxum, Puma, Optum, Magnum, Quadtrac, Steiger, Vestrum, Patriot, Axial-Flow combines and Farmlift, 2010 to 2024 depending on model
  • New Holland: T3 through T9, CR, CX and FR series, Braud, TC and TH telehandlers, 2011 to 2024
  • Claas: Arion, Axion, Axos, Elios and Nexos, 2013 to 2024
  • Deutz-Fahr, Same and Lamborghini: Series 4E, 5, 5D, 5DF, 5K and 5TB, Argon, Dorado, Explorer, Frutteto, Krypton, Virtus, Crono, Spire and Strike
  • Steyr: Kompakt, Multi, Expert, Impuls, Absolut, Profi and Terrus CVT
  • Landini, McCormick and Massey Ferguson: Serie 5, X5, X6, X7, X8 and MF 3
  • Case Construction wheel loaders and graders, plus Dieci and Faresin telehandlers

Engines run from 2.9 litres up to 16.0 litres, so it spans compact orchard tractors through to the largest articulated machines.

What it means

For operators, the practical gain from an agricultural remap is rarely about outright power. It is about pulling power and torque delivery lower in the rev range, which is where fuel burn and work rate actually live on a long day. Any change should be matched to the transmission and the job the machine does.

For dealers, the significant part is that this is a plain OBD job. Agricultural work has been awkward precisely because it meant getting the ECU out of a machine that is not designed to make that easy. Reading through the diagnostic port in the yard changes what is worth quoting for.

If you are set up for AutoTuner already, this arrives as a software update. If you are not, our AutoTuner tool page covers what is involved. Our tuning file service covers agricultural calibrations, so you can send the read over and have the file written for you rather than doing it yourself, and you can talk to us about a particular machine before you take the booking.
