Most of the news this summer has been about opening the newest locked ECUs. In the background Autotuner has also been adding older units, the cars that turn up in a working garage every week and that the modern tools had quietly stopped supporting. All of these are over OBD.

What it means
An old Sprinter or Vito is exactly the sort of van that benefits: the 2.1 CDI typically gains 25 to 30 PS and 60 Nm from a Stage 1, and on a 2004 van that has been driven on the limiter for twenty years the extra torque matters more than the number. The small petrols are mostly about a smoke-free, smooth calibration after a decat or for economy. All are quick jobs on the ramp.
