The new Ranger and the Amarok built alongside it share a 3.0 V6 EcoBlue with 240 PS and 600 Nm, and a Bosch MD1CP061 ECU that was locked from the factory. Until August the only way in was to send the ECU away. On 10 August Magic Motorsport’s Flex 8.11 added a boot glitch that unlocks it on the bench in the workshop: connect, glitch (around five minutes), read in two and a half, write in two. No soldering, and a full backup before anything is written.
Separately, Autotuner’s OBD protocol for the related MD1CP062 gained the Ford Ranger Super Duty 3.0 V6 in July, so the heavy-duty version is a plug-in job.
Vehicles
- Ford Ranger (2022 on) 3.0 V6 EcoBlue, 240 PS
- Volkswagen Amarok (2022 on) 3.0 TDI V6, 237 PS
- Ford Ranger Super Duty 3.0 V6 EcoBlue (OBD)
What it means
The V6 Ranger is the pickup people buy to tow, and the standard map leaves plenty in it. A Stage 1 is typically around 290 PS and 680 Nm, with the ten-speed automatic file available to match so the gearbox is not the limit. The truck is on the ramp and off the same afternoon.
Owners: put your registration into the tuning builder. Dealers: MD1CP061 and MD1CP062 files through the file service; the Flex does the workshop unlock and the Autotuner handles the OBD version.
