Jaguar and Land Rover: the 5.0 V8 supercharged over OBD and the ZF 8HP70 gearbox on the bench

Two useful additions for Jaguar and Land Rover owners in July, one for the engine and one for the gearbox.

5.0 V8 and 5.0 V8 supercharged, over OBD

The Denso P5.0SC that runs the AJ-V8 in the 2009 to 2012 cars is now a straight OBD read and write with Autotuner: three and a half minutes to read, under two to write. That covers the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport 5.0 and 5.0 supercharged (2009 to 2012), and the Jaguar XF, XFR, XJ, XK, XKR and XKR-S. The supercharged 510 PS engine typically goes to around 560 PS and 700 Nm on a Stage 1 with a pulley left standard; with a smaller pulley a Stage 2 goes well past 600.

ZF 8HP70 gearbox, on the bench

KESS3 3.38 added bench read, write and clone for the ZF 8HP70, the eight-speed in almost every Jaguar and Land Rover since 2009: F-Pace, F-Type, XE, XF, XJ, Defender, Discovery, Range Rover, Range Rover Sport and Velar, behind the 2.0 turbo, 3.0 V6 supercharged, 5.0 V8, 2.0 and 2.2 diesel, 3.0 TDV6 and 4.4 TDV8. Clone is the useful part for repairs: a failed TCU can be replaced with a used one carrying the original’s data.

What it means

Owners: put your registration into the tuning builder for the engine figures, and ask about the gearbox file when you book. Dealers: both through the file service; the Autotuner reads the P5.0SC and the KESS3 does the 8HP70.
