Autotuner has added 24V support to its Delphi 4J protocol, which means the tool can now read and write the engine ECU on Isuzu trucks as well as the 12V pickups it already covered. The ECU is the Delphi 4J (MPC561) fitted to the 3.0 TD 4JJ1 engine. It works through the OBD port, with a bench option using the universal bench cable supplied in the Autotuner case.
Which ECUs
The protocol is listed as Delphi 4J (24V Support), covering the Delphi 4J engine ECU on the 3.0 TD 4JJ1. Autotuner lists OBD VR as the main route, with an NR fallback if the standard route is not available, and a bench connection as an alternative. The calibration is read out, written back in around two minutes, and checksums are corrected as part of the process.
One practical point for anyone working on the 24V machines: the in-vehicle connection needs a dedicated 24V OBD cable, and the Autotuner app asks you to confirm a 24V system before it starts talking to the ECU. That check is there to protect the vehicle, so do not skip past it.
Vehicles this opens up
Autotuner lists the following, all on the Delphi 4J with the 3.0 TD 4JJ1:
- Isuzu N-Series, 2014 onwards, 24V (new)
- Isuzu ELF, 2011 onwards, 24V (new)
- Isuzu D-Max / Vcross, 2006 onwards, 12V
- Isuzu MU-X, 2013 onwards, 12V
- Holden Rodeo, 2002 onwards, 12V
The N-Series and ELF are the new additions. The 12V models were already on the list and are included here for completeness.
What it means
For owners of light trucks, the interest in a remap on a 3.0 diesel like this is usually torque delivery low in the rev range, which makes a loaded vehicle easier to drive, and in many cases a drop in fuel burn on long runs. Gains vary a lot with condition, load and use, so treat any figure you see as typical rather than guaranteed.
For dealers, the 24V route removes a gap. Where a customer brought in an N-Series or ELF and you had to turn the job away or send it elsewhere, the Autotuner can now handle the read and write in the vehicle or on the bench, which keeps turnaround short and keeps the work in your workshop.
If you run an Autotuner, see our Autotuner tuning tool page. If you would rather send us the file, our file service is there for dealers, and you can talk to us about a specific truck before you commit to anything.
