The D-Max is the working pickup of choice in Kent and it has been awkward to tune because Isuzu changed ECU supplier twice. Between June and July all three generations were covered.
Which truck, which ECU
- 2013 to 2019 D-Max and MU-X 2.5 and 3.0 (Transtron): KESS3 3.28 bench read and write, also the Grafter and N-Series
- 2019 to 2020 D-Max, MU-X and Mazda BT-50 3.0 4JJ3 (Transtron Aurix): Autotuner over OBD, virtual read, fourteen-minute write
- 2020-on D-Max 1.9 (Bosch MD1CS089, locked): Flex 8.3 boot glitch unlock in the workshop, then bench
What it means
The 164 PS 1.9 in the current truck is the one owners complain about, and a Stage 1 typically takes it to around 200 PS and 440 Nm, which is what it should have had to start with. The 3.0 in the older trucks typically gains 40 PS and 90 Nm. For the 1.9 the ECU comes out once for the unlock and goes back the same day.
Owners: put your registration into the tuning builder. Dealers: all three through the file service; the KESS3, Autotuner and Flex pages say which tool does which truck.
