Autotuner has released bench support for the Bosch MD1CE100 and MD1CE101 engine ECUs, and it is one of the more useful releases of the year for anyone working on heavy machinery rather than cars. These are the control units fitted across a large slice of the commercial truck, agricultural and construction market, and until now they have been a closed door for most workshops.
The release covers MD1CE100 on both TC299 and TC389 microcontrollers, and MD1CE101 on TC299 only. Work is done in bench mode, with the unit out of the machine and on the bench. Autotuner quote a read time of around two minutes and a write of about a minute and a half, with checksum correction and automatic backup creation handled by the tool. One thing to plan for: the ECU has to go through Autotuner’s mail-in unlock before bench reading and writing is possible, so the first unit of a given type is not a same-day turnaround.
Which ECUs
Bosch MD1CE100 on TC299 and TC389, and Bosch MD1CE101 on TC299. Bench mode only, mail-in unlock required. Autotuner also offer a dedicated bench cable for New Holland MD1CE101 and MAN MD1CE100, which makes the pinout connection quicker and harder to get wrong.

What it means
For operators, the interesting part of this family of engines is not a headline power figure. A tractor pulling a cultivator, or a truck loaded to the limit on a long haul, spends its working life in a narrow band low in the rev range, and that is where a properly built calibration earns its keep – cleaner torque delivery off idle, less hunting between gears, and fuel measured per hectare or per mile rather than per hour. On a machine doing long days in the same job, small changes in fuel burn and work rate stack up quickly across a season.
For dealers, this is a straightforward addition to the workshop rather than a new specialism. Our tools now read and write MD1CE100 and MD1CE101 on the bench once the unit has been through the mail-in unlock, and our tuning file service covers agricultural calibrations, so you can take the job on without holding the development work in house. Build the unlock step into the lead time you quote and the rest is a short bench session.
