One ECU sits behind a surprising number of very expensive cars: the Bosch MG1CS221, BMW’s DME9 for the S68 4.4 twin turbo V8. It runs the new M5, the XM, the X5 M and X6 M Competition, the whole M60i mild hybrid range, and, because Land Rover buys the same engine, the Range Rover P530 and P615 SV and the Defender OCTA.
From 15 July it can be read and written on the bench after a mail-in unlock. Two and a half minutes to read, thirty seconds to write, checksums and backup handled by the tool.

What it means
The S68 leaves the factory conservatively mapped because it has to meet every market’s fuel. A Stage 1 on the 530 PS M60i and P530 cars is typically worth 80 to 100 PS and a similar amount of torque; the 727 PS M5 and the 625 PS XM Red Label respond in proportion. Every file we write is proven on our rolling road first, and the original is kept for a warranty visit or a sale.
