Magicmotorsport has released Flex version 8.21.0.0, and with it bench programming for the Bosch MG1CS003 fitted to BMW Group cars. The unit uses an SPC5777M processor. Until this release, getting a locked MG1CS003 open meant taking the ECU apart and running a boot glitch. Flex can now read and write it on the bench with the case left closed.
The release went out on 23 September 2026. Our Flex tools now read and write the Bosch MG1CS003 in bench mode, and the file service covers the calibrations that come off it.
Which ECUs
One ECU is covered by this release:
- Bosch MG1CS003 with an SPC5777M processor, on BMW Group vehicles
- Working mode: Bench. The ECU does not need to be opened, and no boot glitch unlock is required
- Memory: read, write and checksum on the internal flash, read and write on the internal EEPROM, plus a full backup
- Licence levels from FLS0.1M/S to FLS0.5M/S
- Connection about 10 seconds, reading about 2 minutes 30 seconds, writing about 2 minutes
Magicmotorsport does not mark this protocol as beta. The ECU still has to come off the car, but it stays sealed, and the connection is made at the bench plug rather than on the board.
Cars this opens up
The release names these 2021 model year examples. It presents them as part of the coverage rather than a closed list, so any further BMW on the same ECU belongs in the Flex vehicle list and is not repeated here.
- BMW X3 (third generation, G01): 2.0 litre 20i, 16 valve, 181hp
- BMW 5 Series (seventh generation, G30 and G31): 2.0 litre 30e plug-in hybrid, 16 valve, 288hp
- BMW 7 Series (sixth generation, G11 and G12): 4.4 litre V8 50i, 32 valve, 523hp
- BMW 8 Series (G14, G15 and G16): 3.0 litre 40i, 24 valve, 328hp
- BMW Z4 (third generation, G29): 2.0 litre 30i, 16 valve, 254hp
Those horsepower figures are the factory outputs Magicmotorsport uses to name the cars. They are not a claimed gain from a remap.
What it means for owners and dealers
A locked MG1CS003 used to be an open-up job. Opening a modern Bosch case, running a glitch and getting the board back together is where the time and the risk sit. Bench mode takes that out of the procedure. The unit comes off the car, the lid stays on, and Flex talks to it from the connector.
For an owner of one of these 2021 BMWs, the original file can be backed up and the calibration read and written without the ECU being opened. For a dealer, it is a turnaround change. Magicmotorsport quotes about 10 seconds to connect, about 2 minutes 30 seconds to read and about 2 minutes to write. The labour is in removing and refitting the unit, not in a glitch. Workshops that already run Flex at FLS0.5, which is the level we hold alongside FLS0.20, can do the read and write on their own bench. Garages that want the file without the hardware can send it through the file service.
Owners can see what is possible on our tuning builder. Garages who want the files without the hardware can use our file service, and the Magicmotorsport Flex page covers the tool itself.
