Siemens SIMOS 19.6 & 19.3 Now Supported

Hot News For Vag Owners!

Tuned at JF Automotive, MaidstoneOctober 2022

Simos 19.3 and 19.6 are Continental's latest petrol ECUs in the VAG range, and they are the units that stopped a lot of tuners in their tracks when they arrived. They are locked harder than the Simos 18 generation before them, so support arrived later and the read method matters more. We support both for our dealers and in the workshop, which means you are not turning work away because the car is too new.

Thanks to our tuning tool supplier bFlash we can now tune the latest Siemens SIMOS 19.6 & 19.3 ECU’s.

These are the ECUs fitted to the newest VAG petrol cars, and they are the reason owners of recent Audi, Cupra, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen models are so often told that their car cannot be tuned at all.

Why the newest cars get turned away

The Simos 19 family is protected from the factory. It does not always open up through the OBD port the way the older Simos and MED units did, so a workshop without the right tooling genuinely cannot read it. That honest answer tends to get shortened to “it can’t be done”, which is not the same thing.

It can be done. Depending on the car it needs access to the ECU directly rather than through the diagnostic socket, which is a different job from plugging into the port under the dashboard. That is also why support for a given ECU family arrives in steps rather than all at once, as the tooling catches up with each variant.

We can now support 2019-On:

Audi S3 8Y 2.0 TSI 310hp
Audi SQ2 2.0 TSI 300hp

Not sure which ECU your car has?

Send us the registration. Cars of the same model year and trim do not always carry the same unit, so we confirm what is actually fitted before you commit to anything. If your car is not on the list above, ask anyway, because the supported list keeps growing.

Questions we get asked

Which cars use the Simos 19.3 and 19.6?

The newer VAG petrol range: Golf, Leon, Octavia, A3 and their relatives in current generations. Which exact unit a car has depends on the engine, the market and the build date rather than the badge, so send us the registration and we will confirm before you commit.

Can a Simos 19 be read through the OBD port?

Depending on the software version, sometimes yes and sometimes it needs the unit on the bench. That is the practical difference between this generation and the last, and it is why some tuners quote one price and then change it. We will tell you which yours needs first.

Why did support take so long to appear?

Because the security on this generation is genuinely harder, and doing it properly takes time. Anything that appeared very early was usually either limited to specific software versions or not safe. We would rather be right than first.

I am a dealer. Do you write files for these?

Yes. Upload the original read through the portal, tick the options you want and the finished file comes back, usually in about sixteen minutes during working hours. If the car needs a bench read we will tell you before you start rather than after.

What tool do I need?

It depends on the read method your car needs. Alientech, Magic Motorsport, Autotuner and CMD all cover parts of this generation. Tell us which cars you see most and we will tell you honestly what is worth buying.

Is my own car too new to tune?

Probably not. Newer usually means a different read method rather than no method at all. Put your registration into our tuning builder or send it through and we will tell you where your car stands.
