Hyundai and Kia SIM2K-510 OBD and bench support on Magicmotorsport Flex

Magicmotorsport Flex now supports the Kefico SIM2K-510 ECU on Hyundai and Kia 1.6 CRDi diesels in OBD and OBD on Bench modes, with automatic unlock.

2 min readBy JF AutomotiveMaidstone, Kent

Magicmotorsport has added OBD support for the Kefico SIM2K-510 ECU to Flex, which it describes as a Flex exclusive. The ECU is found on a run of Hyundai and Kia diesels, and the update works both in the vehicle over OBD and with the ECU on the bench. Flex version 8.28.0.0 carries the release.

Which ECUs

The ECU is the Kefico SIM2K-510. Flex unlocks it automatically in the first step, in both OBD and OBD on Bench modes, and offers VR, read, write and checksum correction for the maps. Magicmotorsport quotes a connection time of around 30 seconds, a read of about five minutes and a write of about ten.

There is one point to watch on the CAN-FD versions. The real read follows the connection diagram in the manual, and writing needs the new CAN-FD FLX4.4 adapter. If you plan to work on those cars, check you have that adapter before you take the job on. Licence levels listed are FLS0.1M/S and FLS0.5M/S.

Cars this opens up

Magicmotorsport shows a partial list, with the full list on its own site. The examples given are:

  • Hyundai Kona (I) OS, 2017 model year, 1.6 CRDi 16v MHEV 134HP
  • Hyundai Tucson (IV) NX4, 2020 model year, 1.6 CRDi 16v 114HP
  • Kia Ceed (III) CD, 2018 model year, 1.6 CRDi 16v 134HP
  • Kia Sportage (V) NQ5, 2021 model year, 1.6 CRDi 16v MHEV 134HP
  • Kia Stonic (I) YB, 2017 model year, 1.6 CRDi 16v 114HP

Other cars on the same ECU may be covered by the full list, so check the exact vehicle before quoting.

What it means

These small 1.6 diesels are very common on UK roads, and typically respond with better mid-range torque and smoother overtaking after a careful remap. Gains vary with the engine and its condition, so treat any figure as typical rather than guaranteed.

For dealers, OBD access to a popular Korean diesel family means more jobs can be done without removing the ECU, and the bench option is there when needed. We run the Flex system, so this sits alongside the tools we already use.

Owners can start with our tuning builder, dealers can use the file service, and the tool details are on our Magicmotorsport Flex page.
