Scania EMS6 and EMS8 Tuning Opens Up Trucks, Agri and Plant Machines

Autotuner now reads and writes Scania EMS6 and EMS8 ECUs by OBD in BETA, covering trucks, agricultural engines and Doosan construction machines.

2 min readBy JF AutomotiveMaidstone, Kent

Autotuner has released OBD Normal Read (NR) access for the Motorola EMS S6 and Continental EMS S8 (EMD1) ECUs used across the Scania range, in BETA. That takes in Euro 3 to Euro 6 trucks, Scania’s agricultural and industrial engines, and the Doosan/Develon construction machines that share the same engine control units. It is read and write by OBD, with the bench cable available for an OBD-on-bench connection where that suits the workshop better.

Vehicles and machines this opens up

  • Scania Series 4 trucks (P124, R124, T124) – 11.7L PDE and HPI engines
  • Scania P, G, R, S series trucks – 8.9L, 9.3L, 10.6L, 11.7L and 12.7L (DC13), and 15.6L V8 (DC16)
  • Scania agricultural and industrial engines – DC09 9.3L and DC16 16.0L V8
  • Doosan/Develon crawler excavators – DX380 LC-7 and DX530 LC-7
  • Doosan/Develon wheel loaders – DL420-3, DL420-5 and DL450-5
  • Doosan/Develon Moxy dumper – MT31 9.0L

Covered MCUs are the MPC555 and MPC5566, with checksum correction included. Reported times are around 2 minutes 30 seconds to read and 5 minutes to write over OBD, or roughly 9 minutes 30 seconds to read and 6 minutes 45 seconds to write on the bench connection.

What it means

This is a BETA protocol, so it is early and dealers should treat it with the same caution as any first release on expensive machinery – back up before writing, and expect Autotuner to tighten it up over coming updates. For garages working on Scania trucks or the agricultural and construction equipment that shares these ECUs, it means a straightforward OBD route onto units that previously meant a longer bench job. On this kind of machine the gains that matter are torque low in the rev range, better fuel burn under load and more work done per tank, plus a faster turnaround for the workshop rather than a bigger number on a dyno sheet.

Our tools now read and write the Motorola EMS S6 and Continental EMS S8 ECUs covered here. If you run Scania trucks, agricultural plant or Doosan/Develon construction equipment and want to know if your specific model is covered, talk to us or see our Autotuner tool page. Dealers can also route jobs through our file service.
