CMDFlash V3.2.0.290: EMP Glitch Unlock for VAG Bosch MD1CS014

Flashtec CMDFlash V3.2.0.290 adds a new EMP Glitch unlock protocol for VAG Bosch MD1CS014 TC299 ECUs. Here is what it means for tuners and dealers.

2 min readBy JF AutomotiveMaidstone, Kent

Flashtec released CMDFlash version 3.2.0.290 on 17 September 2026, and the headline of this one is a new EMP Glitch unlock protocol for the VAG Bosch MD1CS014 built around the Infineon TC299 microcontroller. MD1CS014 has been one of the more awkward modern VAG engine controllers to get into, and until now the practical routes were a voltage glitch carried out on the bench or sending the unit away for a mail-in unlock. Flashtec now put the EMP method forward as the professional option of the three.

Which ECUs

The new protocol in 3.2.0.290 covers one family, and it is worth being precise about it because the MD1CS naming runs across a lot of different hardware.

  • Bosch MD1CS014 with the TC299 microcontroller, VAG applications
  • Unlock only – once the unit is unlocked, bench reading and writing of the map area follow through CMDFlash in the normal way
  • EMP Glitch method, which uses separate electromagnetic pulse hardware rather than soldering or component removal on the board
  • Flashtec’s existing voltage glitch and mail-in unlock routes for MD1CS014 remain available and are unchanged by this release

The EMP hardware is made by a third party and bought as a kit from Flashtec, so it is a separate line on the invoice from the CMDFlash tool itself. Worth factoring in before you promise a customer a turnaround.

Cars this opens up

Flashtec have not published a model-by-model vehicle list against this release. They have named the ECU family and the microcontroller and left it there, so we are not going to put model names in their mouth. If you have a VAG car in the workshop and you are not certain the engine controller is an MD1CS014 on TC299, read the part number off the ECU label and check it against the Flashtec compatibility pages before you quote the job. Guessing on an MDG1-era unit is an expensive way to learn.

What it means

For owners, the short version is that another group of locked VAG ECUs has become practical to work on properly, rather than being limited to whatever a generic OBD tool will accept. Real read, real write, real recovery if something goes sideways. If you are looking at what is possible on your car, start with our tuning builder.

For dealers, the interest is in the method as much as the coverage. Not opening up the board, not desoldering, and not waiting on the post means a unit that used to be a two or three day job can become a same-day one. That is the difference between quoting a customer confidently and telling them you will ring them next week. If you want the calibration side handled while you concentrate on the hardware, our file service covers it, and the tool itself sits on our Flashtec CMDFlash page.
