The 2.0 EcoBlue is the diesel in every Transit, Transit Custom and Ranger since 2017 and in the Focus, Kuga, Mondeo, Galaxy and S-Max of the same years. Its Continental SID212 ECU has been tunable for a while, but only after a bench unlock: ECU out, patch applied, ECU back in. Over June and July every tool we sell moved to a full OBD protocol.
Magic Motorsport’s Flex started it on 8 June with OBD full read and write and no unlock. bFlash followed on 9 June, Flashtec’s CMD in its .283 and .284 releases, and on 8 July Alientech’s KESS3 added a full OBD protocol that also handles ECUs already patched by another tool. In practice: plug in, read, write, done, in around ten minutes.
Vans and cars this covers
- Transit Mk8 (2017 on), Transit Custom and Tourneo Custom (to 2023), 105 to 185 PS
- Ranger T6 and Ranger Raptor bi-turbo (2019 to 2022), 170 to 213 PS
- Focus Mk4 and Focus ST diesel, Kuga Mk3, Mondeo, Galaxy, S-Max and Edge 2.0 EcoBlue (2017 on)
What it means
For a Transit customer the difference is a van that goes on the ramp and comes off tuned in the same hour, with no need to pull the ECU. A Stage 1 on the 130 PS Transit Custom is typically around 170 PS and 400 Nm; the 170 PS Transit around 210 PS and 450 Nm; the 213 PS Ranger Raptor around 240 PS. The Transit case study shows the before and after from our rolling road.
Owners: put your registration into the tuning builder. Dealers: SID212 files through the file service, and every tool on the tuning tools page now does this over OBD.
