The Model 3 Highland sits high as standard, so on our own 2025 fleet car we fitted Unplugged Performance moderate lowering springs (roughly a 25 to 40mm drop) and H&R hub-centric wheel spacers, then carried out a full laser alignment. The result is a lower centre of gravity, less body roll and a wider stance that fills the arches, while keeping enough ground clearance for potholed UK roads. Fitting takes around four to six hours, the parts are fully reversible, and the springs suit 18, 19 and 20 inch wheels.

LOWERING SPRINGS

HIGHLAND 2024-On

At JF Automotive, we modify electric vehicles for better performance, looks, and handling. As a Tesla specialists in the UK, we worked on our fleet 2025 Tesla Model 3 Highland. This updated Model 3 has new styling, better aerodynamics, and improved interiors. Stock versions sit high, so we fitted Unplugged Performance lowering springs and wheel spacers for a lower stance and wider track. This case study covers the modifications, installation, and results. It suits Tesla owners who want the stance and the body control without changing how the car behaves day to day.

Unplugged Performance Moderate Lowering Spring

We used two main parts: lowering springs and wheel spacers, from Unplugged Performance and H&R.

Lowering Springs: We picked Unplugged Performance moderate height springs for a practical drop. They offer mild (about 0.5-1 inch drop), moderate (around 1-1.5 inches), and sport (up to 2 inches). For our Model 3 Highland, moderate springs lower the centre of gravity without losing ground clearance on UK roads with potholes. These springs suit Teslas, with rates that firm up under load for better cornering and ride. Made from strong steel with anti-rust coating, they fit the Model 3’s suspension.
Spacers: We added spacers to all wheels. These 15-20mm thick aluminium pieces widen the track by moving wheels out. This fills wheel arches for a wider look and adds stability in turns. We used hub-centric spacers for smooth fit without shakes. This helps the Model 3 Highland, as stock setup can understeer, wider track gives more grip.

Parts allow easy fitting without permanent changes.

Installation Process

Fitting needs care and skill, done in our workshop. It took 4-6 hours including the four-wheel alignment. On warranty: springs and spacers are a modification, and Tesla can decline a claim on anything they can show those parts affected. The rest of the car is not affected by us fitting them, and we keep your standard springs so they can go back on before a dealer visit if you prefer. (Please speak to local dealer)

We lifted the car and removed wheels. Stock springs were removed with compressors. We fitted Unplugged Performance moderate springs, checking mounts.

Spacers went between hubs and wheels, tightened to spec with a torque wrench. Wheels back on, we did full alignment with laser tools for camber, toe, and caster. This stops uneven tyre wear after lowering.

We checked brakes and sensors for Autopilot calibration.

Benefits

Changes improved our fleet Tesla Model 3 Highland in handling and looks. Key points:

  • Handling and Stability: Lower centre of gravity cuts body roll, speeds up turns, and adds control. Spacers widen track for even weight and grip, good on UK roads or tracks.
  • Looks: Moderate drop closes tyre-arch gap for a low profile. With spacers, it gets a wide stance that looks custom.
  • Performance: We are not going to claim a range gain: lowering can trim drag a little and the wider track puts some back, and we have not run it over enough miles to give you an honest number. Springs keep comfort over bumps.
  • Daily Use: Keeps clearance for bumps, works with 18, 19, 20-inch wheels. Easy to reverse..

FAQ's

Do you offer a 12 month warranty?

Coming soon…

What is motorsport use?

Motorsport-exclusive components are explicitly designed for track use. While they can be installed on any vehicle, it’s important to note that using such parts renders the vehicle unsuitable for road use and may result in MOT failure.

Will the lifespan of my engine be reduced?

No! Our remaps are designed specifically to improve the performance of your vehicle whilst remaining within the tolerances of your vehicles’ components.

Sadly, in attempt to achieve ‘big numbers’ some other companies over tune engines, placing excessive stress on the engine, transmission, cooling systems, etc, leading to reduced life span and reliability of the vehicle. We pride ourselves in producing reliable remaps which do not over stress your vehicle but still produce impressive results.

What is covered with the 30-day money back guarantee?

In any case where a customer is dissatisfied with any ecu remap software supplied, within thirty days of the supply date, the customer can request their money back. In order for any refund to be processed, the customer must present their vehicle to our workshop and allow our technicians to restore the vehicle to its original state. On successful completion JF Automotive will refund the cost of the remap to the customer.

No refund can be granted unless the vehicle is returned to the original state by JF Automotive. The 30-day money back guarantee only applies to stage 1 remaps and does not apply to other services like pops and bangs, parts or dyno sessions.
If another modification is purchased alongside a tuning file, which relies on a remap to operate, only the cost of the file is covered by this guarantee. We reserve the right to withdraw this 30 day money back guarantee.

Read full Terms and Conditions

Can the remap be reversed?

Absolutely. We offer this service free of charge if the vehicle is brought back to us. We’ll be very surprised if that’s what you want after taking one of our remap products, however in the case of lease cars some customers prefer to put the car back to standard before returning the car. You might want it back to standard if you are visiting a dealer for warranty or service work, again we will do this for free. Should you lose your tuning files due to dealer actions or parts failure we will be happy to re-install the map onto your car free of charge where possible.

What if a main dealer wipes the map with a software update?

No problem, simply bring the vehicle back in and we will take a fresh read of your ECU and write you a new map file free of charge. We offer this as part of our lifetime software support.

Do I need to notify my insurance company?

Whilst the remap is undetectable to dealer equipment, you should notify your insurance company of any modification to your vehicle. Many insurance companies do not penalise you for upgrades of this nature, particularly if you’re tuning for increased economy however a failure to disclose modifications may invalidate your policy. You may wish to enquire with your insurer if the modification will affect your policy prior to choosing one of our services.

Why we don't you offer ECU remapping for £200?!

We get asked, “Why do some tuners charge as little as £150?” There are a few factors as to why we do not offer remapping for £100-£200!

We supply custom written files for each vehicle that we remap that take in to account condition, milage and customer request of each vehicle. Our services are fully insured with a 30-day money back guarantee and lifetime support for the tuning software supplied. We constantly invest in the most up to date tuning and diagnostic equipment and software and we offer a quality service to all our customers.

Overall our custom supplied tuning software is of the highest standard that we know of, so if you want the best of the best, choose JF Automotive.

Questions we get asked

How much lower does the Model 3 Highland sit on Unplugged Performance springs?

Unplugged offer three heights. The moderate springs we fitted drop the car by roughly 25 to 40mm, which closes the tyre-to-arch gap without losing the clearance you need for speed bumps and rough roads. Mild and sport options are available if you want less or more.

Do lowering springs affect the Tesla warranty?

Springs and spacers are bolt-on parts and do not touch the battery or high voltage system. Whether a dealer treats them as affecting a specific claim is their call, so we recommend checking with your local Tesla service centre before booking. We can return the car to standard at any time.

Is a wheel alignment needed after lowering a Model 3?

Yes. Lowering changes camber and toe, and running without an alignment will wear the inside edges of the tyres quickly. We align every lowered car on laser equipment as part of the job and check the driver assistance cameras and sensors afterwards.
