The naturally aspirated 5.2 FSI V10 in the R8 leaves little on the table for a software-only tune: the catalogue Stage 1 figure for the 540hp Gen 2 car is around 630hp and 580Nm. Forced induction is where the big step comes, and this Nardo Grey R8 Spyder from Oakley Design had a VF Engineering supercharger kit supplied, fitted and calibrated by us. The kit sits on top of the engine, the calibration is written from scratch for the blown engine, and the car is run up and proven on our 4WD linked dyno. Audi know how to make a very fast supercar, and this R8 V10 is a perfect example of that. In typical Audi fashion, the car is a stunner where the attention to detail is second to none. The glass cover displays the big block making for a very nice view no matter where you are looking at the car. That being said, with the rise of the turbocharger and the supercharger, the V10 won’t keep up with rivals… Unless you bolt on the VF engineering supercharger kit. Stock Figures
As expected, the car runs impressively straight out of the factory, with quoted Audi figures suggesting 540BHP and 540Nm torque. We know from experience that German car manufactures like to sell short their figures. Just as we thought, the figures came out at 545BHP and 550Nm torque. These figures are great and all… But we had a supercharger ready to fit so we knew this was just the tip of the iceberg.
Once we fitted the supercharger to the top of the block, we were ready to adjust the map to run the car!

The stock figures are impressive alone. With no forced induction there’s not much we can do to the car to make a noticeable difference. This is why Oakley Design decided they wanted us to supply and fit a VF Engineering supercharger kit to the engine. With this, our tech guys had to make hundreds of adjustments to the map before even running the car on the dyno. After this foundation layer is draft, we are able to tweak and alter the map to squeeze more power out of the supercharger.
We eagerly started the final dyno run to find that Oakley Design’s car was now running a whopping 781BHP and 837Nm torque! With 241BHP and 297Nm torque increase, this car is a hypercar killer. You wouldn’t be wrong in thinking this isn’t the same car as the supercharger really does change it in every way. But the benefits don’t stop there. The torque band is now so much smoother meaning when the pedal is touching the floor, your jaw swiftly follows.

Questions we get asked
How much power does a supercharger add to an Audi R8 V10?
A supercharged V10 makes a great deal more than any remap can, with a much broader torque curve as well as a higher peak. The exact figure depends on the kit, boost level and fuel, so we confirm it on the dyno for each car rather than quoting one number for all of them.
Is the R8 V10 worth remapping without a supercharger?
A Stage 1 calibration on the 540hp Gen 2 car gives around 630hp and 580Nm according to our catalogue, with sharper throttle mapping and more mid-range. It is a worthwhile change on its own, but the supercharger conversion is the route if you want the car to keep pace with turbocharged rivals.
Can the supercharger conversion be reversed?
The kit is a bolt-on system and the original ECU file is kept, so the car can be returned to standard. It is a substantial job in both directions, so most owners fit it with the intention of keeping it.
