We service, MOT, diagnose and modify electric cars, and on the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT we can recalibrate the drive units for more power: a Taycan 4 goes from 475hp to 730hp and a GTS from 598hp to 800hp, and the Audi e-tron GT from 530hp to 730hp. On every other EV, including Tesla, the drive unit software is closed, so what we do is servicing, MOT, diagnostics, suspension, brakes and wheels - which on a heavy car set up soft from the factory changes how it drives more than software would anyway.
What we do for electric cars
Four things, and we are straight about which is which. We service and MOT electric cars,
we diagnose faults on them, we fit suspension, brakes and wheels, and on two
of them we can recalibrate the drive units for more power. That last one is a much shorter
list than most people expect, and we would rather tell you that up front.
Servicing and MOT
An electric car has no oil changes, no cambelt, no exhaust and no spark plugs, so the schedule is shorter
than a combustion car. What it does still need is brake fluid, cabin and pollen filters, coolant for the
battery and drive electronics, brake service, tyres and an MOT. None of it needs a main dealer, and we work to
the manufacturer schedule so the service history stands up.
Brakes are the one people underestimate. Regenerative braking means the friction brakes get used far less,
so instead of wearing out they seize and corrode. Servicing them properly is more important on an EV, not less.
Diagnostics and fault finding
Stored fault codes read properly rather than guessed at, plus health checks and electrical diagnosis. If
something is wrong we tell you what it is, what it will take and what it will cost before you commit. If it is
a warranty job or genuinely one for the main dealer, we will say so rather than take the work.
Suspension, brakes and wheels
This is where the money makes the most difference on an electric car. They are heavy, and the factory sets
them up soft to hide that weight over bumps, which leaves them wallowing and sitting high in the arches.
Lowering springs or coilovers, the right wheel and tyre choice and a proper geometry setup change how the car
drives far more than any software would. We have done enough of them to know what works on each car rather
than guessing from a catalogue.
EV tuning: the Taycan and the Audi e-tron GT
These are the two we hold calibrations for. They are built on the same platform and share their motors,
inverters and control software, which is why the figures line up so closely between them.

There is no fuelling or boost to adjust on an electric car. What changes is the software in the drive units
and the power electronics: how much current the inverters are allowed to deliver, how long peak output is held
before it tapers, and how torque is shared between the axles. The cars that gain most are the ones the factory
held furthest below the platform ceiling. A Taycan 4 finds 255hp; a Turbo S, already at 761hp, finds 39.
What you actually feel
More power, obviously. But the part that matters day to day is that a standard car tapers its output early
to protect the drivetrain, so the strongest part of the acceleration is over sooner than you expect. Holding
the peak for longer is what you notice on a slip road or an overtake, rather than on a drag strip.
What we will not claim
We are not going to tell you a remap improves your range. Driven the way people drive a car with more power,
it will not. We do not modify battery management or anything to do with how the pack is charged or conditioned.
If a tuner offers you range and power at the same time, ask them exactly what they are changing.
Can you tune a Tesla?
Not in the same way. Tesla keeps its drive unit software closed and updates it over the air, so there is no
equivalent calibration to write. What we do for Teslas is the servicing, diagnostics, MOT and chassis work
above, and we have written up a Model 3 Highland lowering spring install separately. If you have been told your
Tesla can be remapped, ask which control unit is being written to and how, before you spend anything.
